A missionary to Taiwan is responsible for the development of the Rwo Shur method. Father Josef Eugster came to the island in 1977, but he had severe rheumatoid arthritis that attacked his knees. It was so painful some days that he could barely stand or walk.

He was only 37 years old at the time. Doctors once told him that the pain and discomfort he felt was simply his burden to carry. One of Father Josef’s colleagues suggested that he start learning reflexology instead.

Once the technique healed his body, Father Josef began to work with his parishioners quietly using this new method. He taught a handful of people his processes, which helped to spread the word around Taiwan about what this approach to health could do. That led to the creation of the Rwo Shur Institution in 1982.
